Great event last night at the Next Wave Society in Petersfield. About 14 months ago, the organiser, Steve Shaw, was reflecting on the fact that he no longer saw a lot of the men he had got to know at the school gates when their kids were younger. Wanting to find a way to reconnect with them, he set up the Next Wave Society under the slogan “The best wave of your life is still out there!”
Driven by Steve’s infectious enthusiasm and imagination, and his marketing know-how, the Next Wave has been growing fast and shows no sign of breaking. It’s open to over-55s in and around the Petersfield area, who want to connect with like-minded people, learn new things, explore new pursuits, and have some fun, possibly helped along by a couple of pints or a glass or two of wine. They meet once month in a room at the Half Moon pub in Sheet, and have an eclectic range of speakers (including me, natch – and they’re definitely a lively bunch!) but also run a series of energetic sub-groups offering activities like sea-angling, padel, golf and clay-pigeon shooting, as well as curry nights, barbecues, gigs and trips. If you’re within range of Petersfield give them a go, I’m sure you won’t regret it.
